Interior designer, Sarah Jeffs, founder of Athena Interiors has recently opened the doors of an inspiring showroom namely ‘Athena at 47’ on Llandowlais Street, Cwmbran.

Sarah graduated with a degree in Interior Design from the National Design Academy and gained work experience with a large Cardiff based company alongside her studies.

Having set up Athena Interiors in April 2018 and worked from her home base initially, Sarah took the decision to expand into business premises during 2019. Following six months of renovation, the premises on Llandowlais Street now incorporates a number of small showrooms, office space and a client meeting and consultation area. This space provides Sarah with a base for her company ‘Athena Interiors’ whilst the newly opened showroom and small retail space ‘Athena at 47’ allows her to increase her offering to clients. Sarah said, “Cwmbran is an ideal location for my business. It’s just 10 minutes from the M4 and other major routes and therefore central for our private and corporate clients. The space here is ideal and the rent and rates are far more affordable in comparison to other locations.”

With a long held passion for interior design, quirky homeware, quality furniture and all things handmade, Sarah’s dream has now finally been realised. She said “Even as a child, I loved the idea of running a business and used to think up lots of enterprising ideas. Now I’ve been able to combine my love of design and business to create Athena Interiors and am delighted that I’ve been able to make the move into the new premises that have also allowed me to open ‘Athena at 47’. This development means I can continue to grow the work we undertake for private and commercial clients as well as offering a retail experience to potential new customers or returning clients looking for their homeware, gifts and interior accessories.”

Athena Interiors specialises in all aspects of interior design and project management including practical space planning and reconfiguration, 2d and 3d conceptual works, lighting layouts, colour scheming and soft furnishings as well as overseeing the complete installation and construction processes. They also specialise in the supply of decorative ceiling, wall and floor finishes, fabrics, fixtures and fittings alongside an extensive furniture range. This all complimented by tasteful accessories and gifts chosen by the team on an individual basis.  Additionally, Sarah is keen to not only work with well-known brands such as Andrew Martin, Harlequin and Sanderson, but is happy to fully support and commissions bespoke works from smaller, independent local artisan and craft  businesses, suppliers and workrooms (curtains and upholstery).

She said “My designer style is contemporary, fresh and simple but with a traditional and comfortable feel. I love to use neutral bases with added flares of colour where necessary.”

Sarah continued “Our comprehensive service, is available across Wales and the West with current projects in Torfaen, Newport, Cardiff and Monmouthshire as well as Bath and Bristol. Each project is totally unique and personalised to suit the Clients requirements, budgets and lifestyles. We take the time to fully understand what our clients want to achieve – for those who want to turn their house in to a home or in a commercial environment where the extra design influence can make the world of difference.”

She added “My moto throughout has always been ‘do what you love and love what you do’ and that’s where I am now. I’ve also had invaluable support from family, friends and my partner on my journey to this point. As for 2020 I have very clear plans and want to provide   opportunities for work placements and trainee designers within the business as well as develop the commercial opportunities within the market. I’m also delighted to learn that I am a South Wales finalist at the UK Business Growth 2020 Awards in two categories (‘Homes, Garden & Lifestyle’ and ‘New on the Scene’).

Gaynor Wakeling, Business Support Manager at Torfaen Economy & Enterprise, Torfaen council said “I’m delighted that Athena Interiors has established itself in Torfaen, and wish Sarah every success with her business.”
