Mayor of Torfaen
Councillor Wayne Tomlinson succeeded Councillor Philip Seabourne as Mayor of the County Borough for the municipal year 2012 / 2013 on the evening of Tuesday, 22nd May 2012, at the traditional Mayor Making Ceremony in the Council Chamber, Civic Centre, Pontypool
During the Ceremony, Councillor Tomlinson introduced the new Mayoress, Mrs Erika Tomlinson and his Chaplain, Reverend Anthony Gregory.
Much like his predecessors, during Wayne’s Mayoral Year, he is seeking a Chamber in which mutual respect and confidence are evident and a sense of equity and parity is seen to thrive. In addition to this, Wayne aims for close partnership working with public sector agencies across Torfaen, with schools and with all sectors of the Local Government Family across the County Borough, whilst working up a programme of activities which will promote Torfaen and promote the Council’s aims and values.
Charity fundraising will be a key feature of Wayne’s work. His chosen charities are the Willow Foundation, Ty Hafan – the family hospice for young lives and the Alzheimer’s Society.
Wayne was born in Abersychan in 1957. He grew up locally attending Victoria Village and Penygarn Primary Schools and later Trevethin Secondary school.
Erika was born in Dortmund, Germany and moved over to the UK when she was 8 years old. Wayne and Erika met and married in 1980. They have one daughter, Natalie and one grandson, Jayden.
Wayne spent 32 years working at TRW Automotive (formerly Girlings and Lucas Varity). He then moved on to Security work with the Welsh Refugee Council and Doncaster, Blaenavon, where he works now.
Wayne was first Elected to Torfaen County Borough Council in May 2008, representing the Abersychan Ward, having served as a Member of Pontypool Community Council.
