Supporting People

 

Description

Supporting People is a new government funding framework which commenced on 1st April 2003. It focuses on the delivery of supported housing and housing-related support services, enabling people to achieve their potential to live independently.

 

Examples of the type of support funded through Supporting People are:

  • Help in setting up and maintaining a home
  • Help in establishing personal safety and security (including alarm systems)
  • Emotional support, and advice
  • Supervision and monitoring of health and well-being
  • Help in developing social skills and managing behaviour
  • Assistance with money matters benefit claims & resettlement support
  • Advice, advocacy and liaison with statutory agencies
  • Assistance for young care leavers, homeless people and those leaving institutions
  • Helping people prepare for greater independence through training in basic life skills

Who is the service for?

The Supporting People team deals directly with local housing-related support providers, advice agencies and planning groups. Service users should contact local housing support schemes directly.
