The Children’s University in Wales is an exciting and varied holistic approach to education, which credits children and young people aged 5 to 19, for participating in learning activities outside school hours. The Children’s University embraces the principle of learning as a life long process.
Working closely with parents, schools and communities, the Children’s University aims to provide a broad framework within which each student can reach their maximum potential in whatever areas of learning they desire.
Children’s University is the umbrella name for three different phases, namely: Kid’s College (ages 5-8), Children’s University (ages 9-13) and Youth University (ages 14-19).
Gaining a Children’s University Award
Awards are gained through an accumulation of credits received at registered Children’s University Activity Centres, where one credit is received for every hour of participation. At Children’s University and Youth University levels, a proportion of credits must be for a ‘community contribution’, for example a public performance, team event or ‘match’ watched by the public.
Registers are taken at the CU Activity Centres and sent to the Children’s University Team to bank. A credit statement is issued twice a year to keep students, their families and schools up to date with the progress being made. If students move school/centres their credits are transferable.
