Adult Placements

Description

The Adult Placement Scheme offers a similar kind of family-based support as fostering, however the focus is on helping adults who want to live independently but may not have the confidence or life skills to live alone.

The idea is that vulnerable people are able to live happily on a long term basis with families who include them in the day to day life of the household. Some people are very independent, needing little more support than a friendly person to talk things over with. Others need more direct support in managing their days.

Whatever the individual’s support needs, the aim is to encourage them to do as much for themselves as possible and to keep in touch with their friends and family or to try new and interesting activities.

Adult placements can be long-term or short-term. Short-term care would last from one night to several weeks and can be on a one-off or regular basis.

Becoming a carer with ategi

New APS carers are currently needed. Training and regular support is provided and carers receive payment. For an informal chat, telephone Ategi’s APS team on 029 2081 3434.

Once accepted, carers are matched with a vulnerable person with similar interests and circumstances – the key to creating a successful placement where everyone benefits.

More information is available in the Ategi Adult Placement Scheme| brochure.
