Search Tips
To perform a search of our website, enter a few descriptive words in the 'Search' box located in the top right hand corner of the site and then click 'Go' (or hit Enter on your keyboard).
Case Sensitivity
Searches are NOT case sensitive. All letters, regardless of how you type them, will be understood as lower case.
For example, searches for "libraries", "Libraries" and "lIbRaRiEs" will all return the same results.
Advanced Searches
Use * if you only know part of the word, e.g. rac* will find race, racism, racial.
Choosing Keywords
For best results, it's important to choose your keywords wisely. Keep these tips in mind:
-
Try the obvious first. If you're looking for information on Recycling, enter "recycling" rather than "waste services".
-
Use words likely to appear on a site with the information you want. "Visiting Torfaen" gets better results than "places to go and things to see during my holiday in Torfaen".
-
Make keywords as specific as possible.
Automatic Exclusion of Common Words
Our search facility ignores common words and characters such as "where" and "how", as well as certain single digits and single letters, because they tend to slow down your search without improving the results.
