Motorbikes - Know the law
Parents are being reminded that they need to know the law before they buy their child a mini-motorbike, motorised scooter or scrambler for Christmas. Motorbikes that can travel over 5mph are classed as mechanically propelled motor vehicles and are subject to the Road Traffic Act. Gwent Police and Torfaen Council received over 1000 complaints last year. They want parents to be aware that it does not matter how old the rider is certain legal requirements must be met.
You need to:

Register the bike with the DVLA using form V555 from a main post office

Make sure the bike has European Whole Vehicle Type Approval. Call 0870 6060440

Tax the bike

Make sure the bike is fitted with a number plate, lights and brakes.
