Keep well this Winter
Are you over 60 or do you know someone who is? Every winter older people are at increased risk of ill health, accidents or dying due to the cold weather. The Keep Well This Winter campaign gives information and support to people to maintain good health and well-being.
Torfaen County Borough Council is working with the Local Health Board, Age Concern Torfaen, Care and Repair, Torfaen Voluntary Alliance and other organisations to encourage people to: Keep Well, Keep Warm, Keep Safe.
Six thousand newsletters will be given to older people in Torfaen. It's packed full of advice including information from Trading Standards on bogus callers and scams, police tips on home safety, Energy Efficiency hints on insulating homes and saving money. Health services remind people to get their flu vaccine and encourage readers to eat and drink well to support good health. The Fire Service offer free home fire safety checks.
Look out for the newsletter at council offices, libraries and leisure centres. If you have a copy, share it with your older friends, family and neighbours to spread the messages. Keep in contact with older people as companionship is a vital part of staying well.
