Dont wrap your food waste in plastic bags

The Twin Bin recycling scheme is now available to around 15,000 households. Residents receiving the service have helped us to reduce the amount of rubbish collected from their homes by around 50%. Around 70 tonnes of garden and kitchen waste is collected each green bin week which is being reused and made into compost.

The following areas are now taking part in the scheme, helping us to make Torfaen greener:

Ponthir, Llanfrechfa, Griffithstown, Croesyceiliog, Sebastopol, Oakfield, Llantarnam, Llanyrafon, Greenmeadow, West Pontnewydd, Pontnewydd, Thornhill, Springvale, Upper Cwmbran, Northville, Southville, and part of St Dials.

We would like to remind residents using the service that plastic bags CANNOT be composted with the garden and kitchen waste. Please wrap food scraps in newspaper before placing them in your green bin.

Alternatively these can be placed loosely in the green bin along with your garden waste.

If you would like to buy compostable sacks for your kitchen caddy or green wheelie bin please call us on 01495 762200 for details of suppliers.
