Allotments

Many people in Torfaen enjoy growing their own produce in the garden but not everybody has the space to grow fruit and vegetables. An allotment gives an ideal opportunity to provide the home with home-grown fruit and vegetables that are organically grown free from any chemicals.

 

Torfaen currently has 39 allotment sites, which are managed under the Cwmbran and South Association for the south of the borough or the Eastern Valley Association for the north of the borough. Members of each site are responsible for the day to day management which includes the letting of plots, maintaining waiting lists and generally running the service on behalf of the Authority.

 

The many benefits of having an allotment include:

• You can grow your own fresh and favourite range of fruits, vegetables, herbs and even flowers
• Working an allotment is a healthy physical recreation for all age groups at your own speed. GP's will even prescribe it to reduce stress! 
• Allotments have an immense educational value. They can be used by school gardening clubs and cooking clubs for school-based projects 
• Allotment gardening brings the community together. People from all age groups and a wide variety of social backgrounds come together and learn from each other 
• Allotments enable you to be close to nature and wildlife and so much more
