Torfaen Libraries have a great deal to offer – whatever your interests!
As you’d expect, you’ll find a great selection of books. Whether you need to study, learn a new skill, revise for an exam or just want to curl up in bed with the latest bestseller, we’ve got the answer! You’ll also find books in large print and talking books on CD and tape.
Every library has computer facilities so you can surf the net, send an e-mail, or use word processing and spreadsheet facilities - free of charge! You only have to pay for printouts.
Torfaen Libraries also offer free Wi-Fi facilities.
Every library has a great selection of DVDs and CDs for loan. These can all be borrowed for up to a week at very reasonable charges.
Alongside more traditional reference books, you can find information on your rights. You can also use the Community Information Database to look up clubs and organisations, and discover the world of information available on the web. We’ll do our best to help you find the information you want!
Babies and children welcome, too! You’ll find a great range of books for every age from baby through to young adult. Children can also use ICT facilities, play games on Sony Playstations, and come along to special activities and events. Cwmbran and Blaenavon Libraries have Homework Clubs, offering a quiet place to study, access to computer facilities, and books and information on almost any subject.
It’s free to join! Just bring along proof of your name and address and you can borrow up to 20 books for 3 weeks. You can also borrow up to 5 DVDs and 5 CDs. You can keep these for up to a week, but remember that loan charges apply to these.
Do you have difficulties using a computer?
The Wales Remote Assessment Project (WRAP) is in operation in our libraries. It is Lottery funded and operated by AbilityNet. You can receive help with any physical difficulties you may have using a computer, e.g. you may have problems with sight, hearing, or be a wheelchair user. You do not need to be registered disabled.
In the library we have a small amount of equipment available on request including a large size mouse and special keyboard.
You can log on to the AbilityNet| website and try out the online assessment which will show you how you can make simple changes to your computer to make it more accessible to you. (If you take the online assessment please select Blaenavon Library as your centre).
Please ask in any of our libraries for more information.
