Housing Grants
There are a variety of housing grants available in Torfaen, subject to funding. These include Torfaen Renovation Grants, Disabled Facilities Grants and grants which are available only within declared Renewal Areas.
The Council’s Housing Renewal Team determines which properties of housing within these Renewal Areas will most benefit from Enveloping Schemes.
i) Torfaen Renovation Grants| – for the improvement and/or repair of houses or flats.
ii) Group Repair Grants| – available for repair works to groups of houses in declared Renewal Areas. The most property owners pay to participate in the scheme is a 25% contribution to the overall cost of the work.
iii) Renewal Area Enveloping Schemes| - the Council will designate selected properties within the Renewal Area with a view to funding 100% of the ‘enveloping’ works, i.e. the renovation of the exterior fabric of the building which, together with a collaborative approach with local Registered Social Landlords and private landlords, should bring about a more comprehensive and co-ordinated improvement and maximise the overall impact.
iv) Disabled Facilities Grants| – these usually apply to major adaptations to the homes of people and children with disabilities for work costing up to £36,000, however, there may be other smaller grants available to help with minor adaptations.
