Disabled facilities grants are aimed at facilitating access for the disabled person into and around his or her home.
Improvements to the home can include stair lifts, ramps, handrails, walk in showers, and extensions where required.
People who apply for a grant will be visited by an Occupational Therapist from the Social Services Department and a Surveyor from the
Housing Renewal Team, Social Care and Housing. They will discuss the requested adaptation and must agree that it is necessary and appropriate and reasonable and practicable before the claim is assessed. Grants are then subject to a financial assessment to establish whether the applicant is required to contribute towards the cost.
Disabled Facilities Grants are available to any disabled person living in the Torfaen area; however referral by an Occupational Therapist is required. You can contact the Social Services Department to arrange an assessment visit from an Occupational Therapist on 01495 762200.
