Torfaen Council is no longer a social landlord and it does not own any council houses, flats or sheltered housing complexes.
All social housing in Torfaen is now provided by registered social landlords.
The Council still has a crucial role to play in the housing arena, however, and has a statutory duty to help people who are either homeless or threatened with homelessness.
Torfaen’s housing teams sit within the wider service area called Social Care and Housing Services.
Our housing officers will help you with any housing-related problems, including help to find accommodation.
We also administer the Supporting People programme which helps vulnerable people to live as independently as possible in the community.
Our local housing strategy sets out the way in which we are working with a wide range of private and public sector partners to ensure that the people of Torfaen will have their housing needs met. The strategy recognises that good housing is at the heart the community and can act as a catalyst for social mobility, regeneration, environmental improvement and better health and well-being.
There are a variety of housing grants available in Torfaen, subject to funding. These include Torfaen Renovation Grants, Disabled Facilities Grants and grants which are available only within declared Renewal Areas.
Council Tax is a form of local taxation that helps pay for local services, such as schools, parks, street cleaning and the police. It is charged on all domestic properties and the amount payable depends upon the value of the property.
