Responsibilities if you buy the property

Help2Own is a low cost home ownership scheme, which enables people currently priced out of the housing market to own a home of their own.

If you buy a property under the Help2Own scheme, you will become the legal owner of the property and will be responsible for the costs of purchasing the property, making your mortgage repayments and all the other costs associated with home ownership.

These will include:

  • All legal and other costs, e.g. stamp duty and housing association charges
  • Your monthly mortgage
  • Council tax
  • All utility bills i.e. water, gas, electricity, telephone, etc
  • Buildings and contents insurance
  • All maintenance work, including external work
  • All internal decoration
  • You will have to keep the property up to a good standard

Remember, you home is at risk if you do not keep up your payments on a mortgage and a loan secured on it.
