Children’s Services
Most families will experience problems at some time. Sometimes these difficulties can seem overwhelming and parents will need all the help they can get.
Our Children’s Services teams work with other agencies to provide advice, guidance and support to children, young people and their families.
We help families with children assessed as being ‘in need’ – children and young people up to 18 whose health and well-being might suffer without support from social care services.
These include:

Disabled children and young people

Children and young people who are looked after by the council

Care leavers (up to 21, or 24 if in full-time education)

Children and young people in need of protection
-
Children and young people who have been adopted
-
Children and young people who are seeking asylum or who may have been trafficked.
Social services departments have a duty to protect and safeguard children and must make enquiries when any allegation of abuse or neglect is reported.

If you are concerned that a child is being abused or neglected, or a child tells you that they are being abused, please contact 01495 762200 (or 0800 328 4432 for out of office emergencies) and tell them it is a Child Protection referral. If the child is at immediate risk of harm, telephone the police.
