Services for Older People

Our Community Care services help and support older people (those aged 65 and over) to live independently if they wish, or, where this is no longer possible, to help them move to residential or nursing home care.

Although we would like to be able to help everyone who asks us, we target our services at those people who need them the most.

In Torfaen, our priorities are:

  • people whose personal safety could be at risk, or who could be a risk to the safety of others
  • people who need help to carry out basic functions like getting up and going to bed, getting washed and dressed, and access to meals
  • people who could continue to live independently with a little bit of extra help from our partners in the voluntary sector

Before we can decide whether you are entitled to support from us, a social worker will need to ask some questions about the person – this is called an assessment.

In an emergency, we will take urgent action to meet an older person’s immediate needs.
