Annual Report of the Director of Social Services
In 2008/09, Torfaen was one of two Welsh councils which piloted a reform in the way that social services are reviewed and inspected in Wales.
This new inspection system, which has now been rolled out across Wales, requires a council to have an annual improvement plan for social services and report on how it is being delivered in a public annual report.
The theme throughout Torfaen’s first annual report was how our social care services need to be planned and integrated with other services which affect people’s lives, e.g. health and education. There was a lot of emphasis on working together across council departments, with neighbouring councils and with other organisations, like the NHS, police and the voluntary sector.
Torfaen’s Chief Officer for Social Care and Housing Services, Sue Evans, is now preparing her Annual Report for 2009/10.
