Torfaen Young Peoples Support Service
Torfaen Young People’s Support Service takes a holistic approach to meeting the needs of vulnerable young people aged 16 to 21.
TYPSS recognises that vulnerable young people generally have multiple needs which are often inter-related and require the services of more than one professional or agency.
There has been a growing recognition that the range of problems facing young people can’t be separated from one another. For example, when a young person has a mental health problem it will impact upon their ability to concentrate on a training place. Similarly, homelessness will impact upon a young person’s mental health.
The professionals working together include members of Torfaen’s 16+ team, a Community Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service psychiatric nurse (CPN), the16+ mentoring scheme co-ordinator, a careers officer, Torfaen Youth Service, Emphasis Project, housing and homelessness teams, the Ace Project and education and training.
The majority of the young people helped by TYPSS will be from one or more of the following groups:

Looked After Children (LAC) who are 16+

Young people not in education, employment or training (NEET)

Homeless young people
-
Young people experiencing mental health problems

Care leavers aged between 16 and 21 (25 if in higher education)

Disabled young people who do not have complex needs

All other young people who need advice and support to move into independent living
