Adult Placements
Everyone knows what a foster carer is but unless you work or live in supported accommodation services you have probably never heard of the Adult Placement Service (APS).
APS schemes offer a similar kind of family based support as fostering but for adult service users.
Everyone has the right to choose where they live and where they stay. However for some people, choices are limited because they need a little more support than others in their daily lives. This could be people with learning difficulties, mental illness, physical disabilities or older people. Without the support of others they could be extremely vulnerable but with the right kind of support they can enjoy a fulfilling and varied lifestyle.
Ategi is a provider of Community Care Services in South Wales. We are working in partnership with Torfaen County Borough Council to offer the opportunity to vulnerable adults and their carers to take a break from each other from time to time by arranging short stays in the homes of specially recruited and trained people.
Additionally we want to offer vulnerable adults the opportunity to live on a longer-term basis within an ordinary family setting as an alternative to residential care or hospital care.
People in APS live happily on a long term basis with families who include them in the day to day life of the household. Some people are very independent, needing little more support than a friendly person to talk things over with. Others need more direct support in managing their days.
We would like to hear from individuals, couples or families who have a good sized spare room, a caring and flexible attitude and a genuine desire to support vulnerable people to live or stay successfully and happily in the community.
We would like to hear from you if you have:
-
A positive approach to the needs of vulnerable and disabled people
-
An ability to work to agreed plans
-
A sensitive attitude to the support of vulnerable adults
In return we can offer:
-
A generous weekly payment plus expenses when someone stays
-
Training and guidance
-
On going support
