Black Box Recycling Service
During September 2010 there will be changes to some residents’ waste collection days. All residents affected should receive a letter informing them of the changes later this month. The web pages will be updated to reflect the changes to the collection days week commencing 30 August.
The weekly black box collection is for all your household rubbish that can be recycled. Please separate each type of material into a plastic carrier bag and place inside your black box.

What goes in the black recycling box?

food tins and drink cans (please rinse)

empty aerosols (no spray paint of industrial aerosols)

newspapers, magazines and junk mail (no envelopes please)

catalogues and telephone directories
-
glass jars and bottles
-
clothes, textiles and paired shoes

plastic bottles (no other plastic containers please)
We CANNOT accept cardboard for recycling in the black box. You can recycle cardboard at recycling banks| throughout the Borough.

Why are only plastic bottles accepted?
The black box recycling scheme only collects plastic that can be reprocessed in the UK. Bottles are generally made from a similar plastic type, which is why this is the only type of plastic packaging currently collected. However, plastic bags used to hold extra recycling are also recycled into new plastic products.
I have too much recycling for my black box, what can I do?
We can provide you with a second box. Please call on the number at the bottom of this page to request another. Alternatively please separate the extra recycling into carrier bags, tie the bags up and leave them on the top or beside the box.

Missed collections
If your black box was at the collection point by 7.30am on the day of collection however has not been emptied, please let us know immediately by completing the report a missed bin collection online| form and we will make arrangements to collect it as soon as possible.
