Collections of Sharps Boxes

Torfaen County Borough Council in conjunction with Torfaen Local Health Board has recently set up a sharps bin collection service for residents who have used needles for disposal. This replaces the disposal service provided by local surgeries.

Residents that are prescribed or issued with sharps bins by their doctor should contact Torfaen Council to request the collection service by calling 01633 648494 or 648489.

The Council will initially collect on a monthly basis, however, if more frequent collections are required, these can be arranged.

The Council will be supplying all GPs and Pharmacies with stickers that can be placed on the sharps bin providing details of the contact number for the collection service so that residents have the number to hand.

Residents are reminded that because of the risk of needle stick injuries, sharps bins should not be disposed of via the normal household refuse collection.
