The Council’s automatic air quality monitoring station, located in Cwmbran monitors air pollutant levels in order to assess current air quality. The information gathered determines if measured air quality in Torfaen meets the national standards.

Under the new regulations, Local Authorities are required to inspect land within its boundaries for contamination. If you believe land to be contaminated you should contact the Public Health Team who can make an assessment of the land then advise of solutions available for cleaning up land.
 
 
Noise Pollution Control
It is a fact of life that we all make noise. What is a noise to one person may be pleasurable to another. Complaints about excessive noise are investigated by the local authority who can take action if the noise is considered to be a statutory nuisance.
 
 
Water Pollution Control
In Torfaen there are approximately 79 private water supplies. Private water supplies are often polluted with bacteria known as coliforms. If you are concerned about the quality of water supplied to your property from a private water supply, you can ask the Environmental Health Team to test a sample of the water.
