Help to Give Up Smoking

What help can I get if I want to give up smoking?

The new law is not about forcing people to give up smoking, but many people in Ireland and Scotland chose to give up when the smoking bans were introduced there. Most smokers want to give up, and many find it easier to do so once people at work or in the pub are no longer smoking around them.

Smoking is one of the main causes of ill health in Torfaen, and it is therefore important that we tackle levels of smoking if we are to see real improvements in health in Torfaen.

Smoking Cessation Support

For help and advice on how to give up smoking, the Smokers Helpline Wales free-phone helpline offers

  • One to one confidential advice from specially trained counsellors
  • Guidance on stopping smoking and help with associated problems

  • Information leaflets on how to get started, planning and preparing to quit smoking

  • Guidance on accessing support from local smoking cessation services

The main telephone number for this service is 0800 169 0 169, and callers will then be put in contact with local cessation services.
