Gastroenteritis Information

Gastroenteritis illness is usually self-limiting and mild to moderate, but it can be severe in persons who are debilitated by disease or age.

Symptoms range from nausea to vomiting and/or diarrhoea with a few individuals experiencing abdominal pain and headache. Symptoms characteristically last between 24 and 48 hours, with convalescent (recovering) individuals remaining infectious for 48 hours after symptoms have subsided.

There is no specific treatment or cure and medical assistance is usually required for dehydration only or associated pre-existing medical conditions.
