Help stop the decline of brown Hares and Lapwings

We need to find out more about two well known, but rapidly declining species, the lapwing and the brown hare. Both were once common on farmland in south east Wales, but have experienced a massive reduction in numbers over recent years.

Lapwing Bird

Hares and lapwings thrive in countryside closely associated with traditional methods of farming. March and April are good months to look for hares because the males can be seen ‘boxing’ or ‘courting’ females, and lapwings can be found ground nesting from mid April each year.

If you see brown hares or lapwings on your land or in your area, please let us know by using the online form|.
