Building Conservation

The Conservation Team has a leading role in managing the conservation of the historic built environment in Torfaen. The Team is primarily responsible for:

• Securing the preservation of listed buildings and ancient monuments
• Preserving and enhancing the character of Conservation Areas
• Providing general advice to the Council on matters relating to urban design and architecture

In addition, the team provides specialist advice to the public on development inside Conservation Areas; on alterations to listed buildings and on proposed development inside the Blaenavon Industrial Landscape World Heritage Site. The team also formulates Conservation Policies for managing the historic built environment throughout Torfaen.
