What qualifications can I gain?
What are NVQs?
NVQs are qualifications based on standards that have been identified by industry. A NVQ is a flexible and practical qualification, which allows learners to work at their own pace.
NVQs recognise what people can do (competence-based). NVQs can be achieved as long as it can be proven to the assessor that the standards set out in the units that make an NVQ are achieved.
The NVQ is split into a number of units, which will be dependant upon the level and type of NVQ. Generally each unit is sub-divided into elements. The elements are again sub-divided into performance criteria. The performance criteria are the key against which the assessor judges performance and will be assessed in a range of different ways to demonstrate total understanding and competence.
What are Technical Certificates?
Technical certificates are vocationally related additional qualifications and will be completed in conjunction with the NVQ. Technical certificates have been introduced to significantly upgrade apprenticeships and allow learners further opportunities for progression. Technical certificates confirm underpinning knowledge and understanding relevant to the NVQ.
