Success Stories
Congratulations to Jarryd who has been selected as Torfaen Training's Success Story 2008.
Jarryd has been nominated by his Training Officer Nick Barton for his achievement, dedication and commitment in his career development at the Castell y Bwych Restaurant.
Nick Barton Catering Training Officer says:
Jarryd started with Torfaen Training as a rather shy and reserved level 1 learner working at the Kings Head pub in Caerleon. In November of last year he moved with the proprietor (Mr Darren Bartlett) to the Castell y Bwych pub and restaurant, in Upper Cwmbran.
Under the tutelage of Darren and his head chef (Alex) he started to blossom and increase in confidence and more importantly 'competence'. On a recent visit to the Castell y Bwych which despite the economic gloom, seems to be continuing to pull in the crowds, I was informed by Darren that the Head Chef had left and Jarryd had stepped into his shoes with ease.
In fact Darren commented on how Jarryd ran a very busy kitchen (last Saturday he put out 115 meals in one day, on his own) and managed to remain calm and composed. Praise isn't only coming from his boss either, as Darren informs me that he receives a string of compliments and praise for Jarryd's cooking skills and the meals that he serves, from very happy customers!
It would seem that the shy young trainee chef of some 18 months ago is now a very competent chef indeed!
