Skill Build
This scheme offers both the chance to job taste in a variety of work environments and also the opportunity to work towards a NVQ level 1 qualification in their chosen occupational area.
It allows a person to demonstrate their potential and suitability through structured work experience. The Skill Build programme is ideal if learners are unfocused, lack the confidence in their own ability or have been out of employment for any length of time.
Employers who are interested in accessing this programme make no contribution to the training allowance paid to the learner for the first 13 weeks of the course. After this time, when the learner is ready to start their NVQ Level 1, the employer contributes £25 a week to the learners training allowance.
Unemployed people of any age can also access Skill Build. To check the eligibility criteria, unemployed learners must contact either Careers Wales| or Jobcentre Plus|.
