Profile of a Learner

This feature is designed to illustrate the career progression that can follow on from undertaking a programme with Torfaen Training.

 

Here at Torfaen Training, we try and ‘practice what we preach’ so our first Profile of a Learner is our very own Technical Assistant, John Payne who epitomises the success that can be achieved through re-training and is an inspirational advocate for Lifelong Learning.

John had had a successful career as a plumber prior to starting training but was unfortunately forced prematurely into a change of career. John joined Torfaen Training in October 1998 and was referred by the Job Centre on a Work Rehabilitation Programme. The programme was designed for those affected by long term illness and was a work placement scheme.

 

On the programme, John completed a NVQ Level 1 qualification in Information Technology and progressed onto NVQ Level 2 Information Technology, NVQ Level 2 Business and Administration and finally onto NVQ Level 3 in Customer Service.

 

During his NVQ Level 3 Customer Service qualification, john successfully secured employment with Torfaen Training and gained recognition for Customer service beyond the call of duty. John received commendation for his dedication and commitment to his job role and has now been an integral member of the team for over 5 years.
