School term dates make provision for 195 school days. Within these 195 days, schools are allowed to close for five days for training purposes. You should contact your child's school for information about the days on which they will close for training purposes. Alternatively, your Local Education Office may be able to help you if you are unable to make contact with the school.
Occasionally schools have to close as a result of bad weather or unavoidable emergencies such as loss of utility services. A message about school closures will appear on this website.
In setting school term dates and holidays, Torfaen consults with its neighbouring authority's in order to achieve a consistent approach across the South East Wales area. Any proposed dates are also the subject of consultation with the various teaching unions.
