Service Asset Management Plan

An Asset Management Plan is not a building maintenance programme, although the programming of maintenance is derived from the Plan; it represents a holistic approach to resource management.

It seeks to inform a number of critical service delivery questions:

  • How many buildings does the Council need?
  • How big should they be?
  • Where should they be located?
  • How can they be fully utilised?
  • How long is the Council going to need them for?
  • Should the Council own them or rent them?
  • What does the Council own that it no longer needs and should it be sold?
  • What are the maintenance requirements of the existing stock?
  • What are the priorities for spend?
  • Where can the money come from?

The presence of such a document represents ‘good practice’ in the management of assets and resources and will form part of the strategic planning framework for the Education Service, being updated continuously as new information becomes available.

It will provide sufficient information to enable proper judgements to be made about questions such as these and provide the Council with an objective and evidence based tool to support the decision making process.
