The Education Welfare Service assists schools to carry out their duty to ensure regular attendance, and is also responsible for monitoring the employment of children to ensure that they are safely and legally employed and that their employment is not having an adverse effect on their health or education.
Torfaen has a team of 7 Education Welfare Officers who work for the Local Education Authority and who are based at the Authority's Secondary schools.
The Education Welfare Officers can be contacted between 8.45am and 10.30am. Messages can also be left at other times whilst home visits are available to discuss problems which may be affecting your child’s schooling.
