Nant Celyn Primary School is a £7 million development that will replace Brookfield and Hollybush Schools. The new 420 place school is being built on the Hollybush site and will be the first new Primary School to be built by Torfaen County Borough Council since its formation in 1996.
Nant Celyn will be single storey community primary school in a modern 21st century building. It will include excellent disability access to all areas of the building and grounds, there will be direct access from all the classrooms to outdoor areas and each infant classroom will allow access to an outdoor space with a canopy providing protection in wet weather.
Building of the new school commenced in July 2009 and it is due to open in September 2010.

Key features of the new school will include:
Investment in Information Technology
All classrooms will be equipped with Interactive whiteboards, and pupils in most year groups will have access to laptops on a one to one basis. Video conferencing facilities will allow the school to establish links and share lessons with other schools in the UK and abroad.
The school will also have its own TV and recording studio, which will allow pupils to develop their presentation skills. The technology rich environment will place Nant Celyn Primary School at the cutting edge of teaching and learning.
Regional Centre for Hearing Impaired
The centre currently based at Hollybush School will transfer to the new school. Special attention is being given to the acoustic environment throughout the school and, in particular, sound insulation between classrooms to reduce the transfer of sound around the school.
Outdoor Classrooms
Torfaen is implementing the Foundation Phase where the focus is on providing exciting, relevant and adventurous learning opportunities for all children aged 3-7 years. One of the key features of the Foundation Phase is learning through play and children using outdoor areas to learn about themselves and their environment. Nant Celyn will have a wonderland of specially designed facilities including landscaped grounds and outdoor play areas where children can explore and enjoy learning through first hand experience.
Outdoor Sports Facilities
A floodlit artificial turf pitch and a multi use games area will be available for use by the school and the community.
Community Focus
The main hall, small hall, community room and resource area will be available outside of the normal school day for community activities. Other areas of the school can be made available at the discretion of the Governing Body. Coedeva Youth club which is currently based in a separate building on the Hollybush site will relocate to the new school.
