View of proposed extension

Following a borough wide review of primary school provision Torfaen County Borough Council agreed to the proposal to amalgamate Griffithstown Infant and Nursery School and Griffithstown Junior School in 2005. The schools were subsequently amalgamated following a statutory consultation on 1st January 2007 and have been operating on two separate sites since that time.

The original approval to amalgamate in 2005 was conditional on infant pupils moving on to the junior site when funding became available. This was confirmed when the Welsh Assembly approved the scheme following the statutory consultation period. In June 2009, when funding became available, the Council confirmed their commitment to co-locate the children currently on the Griffithstown Junior, Infant and Nursery sites to the Griffithstown Junior site with effect from September 2010 to ensure that the children would gain from the educational benefits of all through provision on a single site. It also approved resources in July 2009 to extend and remodel the Griffithstown Junior site to accommodate the Griffithstown Infant and Nursery children with effect from the Autumn Term 2010.
