Summer Holiday Playschemes
Open-access and closed-access playschemes are run in schools, community centres, leisure centres and parks across Torfaen during the summer holidays. A range of play and sporting activities is available to children and young people free of charge, although there is a £5 registration fee for closed-access playschemes.
Closed-access playschemes normally take place on school grounds and are usually registered with the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW). An attendance register is kept and children are not allowed to leave the site without permission. This type of playscheme is offered to children aged 4 to 11 years and priority is given to children who attend the school where the playscheme is held. Open access playschemes - Torfaen County Borough Council operates its Playschemes on an Open Access Basis and parent's attention is drawn to the fact that the children and young people may leave playschemes at any time during the published hours. Staff cannot legally prevent children from leaving the premises. In the interest of safety, parents are requested to instruct their child or children not to leave the site without consulting the Playscheme Supervisor. The council does not accept any responsibilities for the care, control and supervision of the children traveling to and from the site.
Some of the Playschemes run from as outreach sites and these are delivered from safe environments such as parks and open spaces. These provisions are targeted at children and young people aged 5 – 15 years who play out within their community. These sites are listed below with a red star. The playschemes will run from Monday 26th July until Thursday 19th August.

New for 2010: some open-access playschemes will now have a Play Care – Playscheme Wraparound service attached, which will operate two sessions (8am to 10am and 3pm to 5pm) per day to extend the playscheme day for children and young people aged 8 to 16 years.
