Crownbridge School at Croesyceiliog
This is an £8.2 million development which will complement the existing facilities currently available at Sebastopol and Penygarn Community Primary School. The new building will be located within the existing site of Croesyceiliog Comprehensive School and will provide an up to date and welcoming environment in which to deliver a modern curriculum.
This new phase of Crownbridge School will accommodate 70 - 80 children aged 3-19 with a range of learning and physical abilities in a facility with an open and inclusive teaching environment.
The new building will have the flexibility in order to respond to future demands and will have the following key areas:

10 main teaching areas linked with quiet rooms, support space and external teaching areas with state of the art designed facilities fit for the 21st Century.

A hall for multi purpose use including assembly, dining, community access and public performances

Hydrotherapy pool with the potential for community use

Life skill apartment to promote self sufficiency

Staff and administration facilities

Technology rich learning environment
Accommodation will be provided over a single storey and will be designed to the highest environmental standards and reduce energy needs. The Building Research Establishment’s Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) has informed the architectural approach and combines energy efficient building services.
The key design objectives are as follows:

To be an exemplar building – to set an example for other Additional Learning Needs projects.

Learning environment – providing flexible internal arrangements; ease of movement from space to space; dispersed technology; quiet space for one-to-one soft skills; and spaces for individual study.

Indoor/outdoor connection – providing covered teaching spaces with links to a range of outdoor play areas and specialist outdoor equipment. Landscaping should be integral to these areas.
