Improve Numeracy & Literacy Skills
Essential skills are the skills we need to manage our own lives in a world full of words and numbers, at work, at home and in our lives in the community. They include:

Speaking - so that people can understand

Listening - so that we understand what is being said

Being able to use numbers and maths in our everyday lives

Being able to use computers for everyday tasks
1 in 3 people within Torfaen do not have GCSE’s in English and/or Maths at Grade C or above.
If you wish to improve your skills in some or all of these areas, Torfaen County Borough Council has obtained European Social Funding to provide FREE of charge:

GCSE English

GCSE Maths

IT and Essential Skills classes
Torfaen County Borough Council also offers small and medium employers within the area the opportunity to improve the essential skills of its the workforce.
The service is available to anyone who lives or works in Torfaen and who doesn’t have a GCSE in English and/or Maths at grade C or above.
If you do have a GCSE but still need help, you can also access the service.
