Legal Requirements

 

It is a legal requirement for all eligible citizens to register. Providing false information or failing to register can lead to prosecution and a fine of up to £1,000.

 

Living Abroad


If you are a British Citizen and are thinking of living abroad you may still be able to register to vote at Parliamentary Elections from your last registered address. Your right to vote at British Parliamentary Elections can last up to 15 years. You can vote by post| or vote by proxy|.

 

Special Circumstances

 

Electors who are voluntary patients in mental hospitals, homeless persons or persons held on remand need to contact the Election Section for special application forms to register.
