Scrutiny Reviews
Overview and Scrutiny Committees can undertake detailed scrutiny reviews of particular areas of policy or service. The aim of these reviews varies depending on the subject matter, but fundamentally they challenge existing policy and are based on thorough research, scrutiny and consultation. The reviews do acknowledge good practice, but ultimately take the form of proposals for improvement.

Any proposals or recommendations arising out of the reviews are presented to the Cabinet so that they can consider and decide upon the proposed recommendations. If the recommendations of the scrutiny reviews are rejected by the Cabinet, then clear reasons have to be given.
If the recommendations of the review are accepted by the Cabinet of the Council, the implementation of the proposals are regularly reviewed by the appropriate committee to see whether the recommendations have been put into practice, and if there have been improvements for service users.
