Councils Constitution

Amongst all the various plans, strategies and other publications, the Council's Constitution is one of its most important documents. The Constitution sets out:

• the principles of how the Council works
• how citizens elect Council members and subsequently can access and influence the Council and its various decision-making structures
• what members of the Council do (and how they do it, along with their responsibilities for good conduct and judgement)
• how the various "arms" of the Council work and how meetings are organised and run
• the rights of citizens (for example, to information about the Council)
• the role of officers of the Council
• who's who and who does what, and
• the various rules and regulations, amongst other things.
