This year, 35 sites across Torfaen are offering open-access summer playschemes within community settings.
The majority of playschemes are designed for children aged 8-12 years, with outreach playschemes for 5-15 year olds being delivered outside in parks and open spaces.
The executive member for children and young people, councillor Mary Barnett, said: "The playschemes will run daily on an open access basis in community halls, leisure centres, parks and open spaces across the borough.
"Play opportunities are essential for children and young people as they allow them to interact socially with friends and take part in physical activities that promote healthier lifestyles."
Following a week of training, 75 workers, 140 community volunteers and 10 play helpers have this week rolled out the playschemes across the borough.
As well as the usual range of exciting and enjoyable play opportunities, a series of special events will also be held, including:
Wednesday 4 August - National Playday event, Cwmbran Boating Lake, Southfields, 11am-2pm; Wednesday 11 August - Torfaen playschemes' got talent, Workman's Hall, Blaenavon, 11am-2pm; Wednesday 18 August -beach party family fun day, Pontypool Park, 11am-2pm; Friday 20 August - end of playschemes awards ceremony, Cwmbran Stadium, 1pm-2.30pm.
Parents/carers are required to register their child on the first day of playschemes and a birth certificate will be required. All staff and volunteers will be trained, uniformed and in receipt of a full Criminal Records Bureau check.
The playschemes will run until Thursday 19 August. For more information, contact the play team on 01633 648126.
