Super recycler joins forces with swashbuckling pirates

Recycling mascot Dan Can joined forces with swashbuckling pirates in Cwmbran town centre to raise awareness about green issues.

The heroic mascot and the Desperate Men street theatre group entertained shoppers by performing the Eco Pirate Show.

Torfaen Council organised the event in Gwent Square on Friday to celebrate national recycling week (June 22 to June 26).

One hundred compost bins were also given away free to Torfaen residents and Council officers were on hand to offer recycling advice.

Councillor John Cunningham, Executive Member for Operation Services, said: "Thanks to the enthusiasm of Torfaen residents we are the best performing recycling authority in South Wales and this was a fun way of getting the important message across."
