Artistic pupils at Llanyravon Primary School in Cwmbran have won a competition which helped mark the first anniversary of a recycling mascot.
Schools were asked to design artwork which included Torfaen Council’s recycling mascot Dan Can the Super Recycler.
The competition was held to celebrate Dan’s successful campaign which was launched nearly 12 months ago.
Llanyravon’s entry was picked from a bagful of entries. Using recycled materials, pupils designed a shield with the super hero in the middle.
The picture will now be displayed at the Civic Centre in Pontypool and the school won £300 for their efforts.
Waste manager Cynon Edwards said: "We were impressed with all the entries but Llanyravon’s really stood out – it is a fantastic piece of work.
Councillor John Cunningham, Executive Member for Operational Services, added: "People of all ages have really taken to Dan Can and he is helping to encourage more and more people to recycle."
Torfaen Council is now the best recycling authority in South Wales- recycling 42 per cent of its waste.
Dan Can and his slogan recycle- if Dan Can you can now feature on the Council website, leaflets and on the back of recycling lorries.
The mascot also won a Chartered Institute of Marketing award.
