Disrupted recycling collections will be back on track next week

Recycling collections in Torfaen are due to return to normal next week after the disruption caused by recent snow and ice.

Dangerous working conditions during the adverse weather meant recycling boxes could not be collected for three consecutive days from Wednesday February 4 to Friday February 6.

Collections were cancelled again because of snow and ice on Tuesday February 10.

Areas particularly affected included Griffithstown, Trevethin, Croesyceiliog, Llanyravon, Ty Canol and Pontnewynydd.

A Torfaen Council spokesman said: "This created a large backlog running into thousands of boxes which recycling crews, who are working extra shifts, are now beginning to clear.

"During this time of disruption we have kept residents informed via local media and the Council website.

"Collections are expected to return to normal by the middle of next week. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.

"We would like to urge residents to keep up the good work and carry on recycling. The bad weather presented us with a set of exceptional problems which have taken some time to resolve.

"We would like to thank residents for their patience and support during this period."

Refuse collections, which were also disrupted by the weather, have now returned to normal.
