Brookfield Primary School in Cwmbran has been praised for giving pupils a 'wide range of outstanding learning opportunities'. Estyn Inspectors visited the School in February and have recently published their report.
Estyn base their inspections on seven key questions. The grades awarded to Brookfield School were two Grade 1s and five Grade 2s.
Grade 1 is 'good with outstanding features' and these were given for:
-
How well do the learning experiences meet the needs and interests of learners and the wider community?
-
How well are learners cared for, guided and supported?
Michelle Bellew, headteacher, said: "We were thrilled with the inspection report which highlighted so many outstanding aspects of the school. It was thanks to a huge effort by staff, governors and the pupils to consistently keep standards so high."
Other key findings were:
-
Pupils' standards of achievement in the lessons observed were higher than the WAG figures for the whole of Wales in 2007.
-
The school's response to the overall learning needs and interests of pupils is outstanding.
-
Outstanding opportunities are provided to enable pupils to develop the ability to work independently as well as in pairs and groups.
-
The quality of the care, support and guidance provided by the school is consistently of a very high standard and this is an outstanding feature.
-
Pupils' behaviour is good and the school functions well as a happy, supportive and orderly community where all pupils are valued equally. They have good motivation and almost without exception show enthusiasm for their work.
