Dan Can joins pupils for community clean up

Torfaen Council's super hero, staff from McDonald's in Cwmbran and pupils from Our Lady of the Angels Primary School are planning to clean up and improve their local area later this month.

The children, aged ten and eleven, will also be using their artistic skills to design an advert, poster or poem that will be entered into a competition.

And Torfaen Council's recycling mascot Dan Can- the Super Recycler, as well as officers from the local authority, will be on hand to offer tips on recycling during the restaurant's 'Just Bin It' event on Thursday May 22.

The children from the Cwmbran school have previously held a litter pick and, last year, ran a competition to design and paint two murals in the Caradoc Road underpass between the town centre and Northville.

As well as picking up litter later this month, they will clean and paint the housing estate side of the underpass and plant a colourful flowerbed nearby.

Alison Badham, franchisee of the restaurant, said: "The 'Just Bin It' campaign is a brilliant initiative and provides a really good way for our restaurant to contribute to the welfare of the local area."

A Council spokesman added: "We are delighted to support this event and we applaud the good work of the school and local community."
