Free hearing tests for music lovers

Many people are unaware of the damage they might be doing to their hearing through the use of personal music players.

But later this month they will have the chance to learn more about the dangers and have a free hearing test during an event in Torfaen.

As part of Noise Action Week 2008, officers from Torfaen County Borough Council will be on hand to offer information and advice at the bandstand in Cwmbran town centre between 10am and 4pm on Tuesday May 20.

A Council spokesman said: "We will be taking this opportunity to offer advice and information on hearing loss caused by exposure to noise from a variety of sources.

"In particular we will be targeting people using personal audio devices such as MP3 players, iPods and Walkmans. We will measure the output volume from the devices and comparing it to a variety of other devices such as washing machines and pneumatic drills.

"We will also be supported by the local branch of Specsavers who will be offering free on-the-spot hearing tests."
