Filmmakers project is out of this world

Young filmmakers at Pontymoile School dressed up as aliens to persuade people to do their bit for the environment.

Around 140 pupils at the Pontypool school spent a week making a short film using video footage, photographs, artwork and animation.

Their story describes how aliens landed near their school and investigated green issues before flying off again.

These include recycling, rubbish and climate change.

The video, which features an eco song and environmental messages from pupils, will be sold to raise funds for the school.

Filming finished on Friday.

Headteacher Samantha Beavan said: "The video is brilliant. The children have been so excited all week.

"We hope the video will help make a difference and help raise awareness about the damage being done to the environment."

Jan Janos, a teaching assistant at the school which has recently secured its silver award in the eco schools scheme, added: "The project involved the whole school and was a massive success."

The school already does a wide range of eco-friendly activities including composting and recycling and has recently opened an allotment on its grounds.
